Johnson signals restraint for England

Johnson did not say what the restrictions would be, saying the government was monitoring Covid-19 data “hourly,” warning the public that the government’s rules could be tightened in the coming days.

Noting that the

Omicron mutation of Covid-19 is increasing across the country, especially in the capital London, and hospital admissions are increasing in the same way, Johnson said the current situation is “extremely difficult.” The government is looking at every detail to contain the Omicron mutation, Johnson said.
Additional restrictions could be imposed for The UK, Johnson said, adding: “We will also review the economic aspect of this,” explaining that such a situation could include a number of VAT reductions and assistance in the form of funds from local councils.
Noting that millions of people have not yet received their first vaccination, Johnson said that vaccination makes a big difference and that there is a lot of evidence to do so. Johnson urged the British public to “exercise caution” and “take doses of the booster vaccine.”
