Hubble detects a rare pair of galaxies

The Hubble Space Telescope has detected a pair of rarely observed galaxies. This was considered a great chance.

The Hubble Space Telescope transmitted an image this week. At this point, we collectively received images from an interactive pair of galaxies known as Arp 282. The lower galaxy represents a rare species known as NGC 169, the Seyfert galaxy.

Observing similarly active galaxies is a difficult process. Because they emit a lot of radiation. However, Seyfert galaxies emit energies of different wavelengths that can be observed by telescopes such as Hubble. This means that although it is extremely active, the galaxy can be clearly observed.

Scientists: “The image taken by Hubble is a chance”

The other galaxy in the image below is positioned towards the top of the IC 1559 image. In addition, it appears to be a highly active species. The two galaxies are so close together that they interact with material that moves in the flow of matter between the two.

It’s extremely rare to see two energetic galaxies interact so clearly. Hubble scientists have made a statement at this point. They said the following:

“Interestingly, both galaxies have monumentally energetic nuclei known as active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Still, it’s hard to say from this image.”

If the image revealed the full emission of both AGNs, their brightness hides the beautiful detailed tidal interactions that we see in this image. In this case, scientists say:

“Tidal forces occur when the gravity of one object causes another object to bend or stretch. The direction of tidal forces is far from the low-mass object and towards the higher-mass object. When two galaxies interact tidally, gas, dust, and even all star systems can move towards one galaxy and move away from the other. The image reveals this process in action as sensitive flows of matter that visibly connect the two galaxies.”
