Coronavirus barrier to New Year’s Eve celebrations in France

French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced a ban on concerts and fireworks on the night of December 31st as part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, announcing plans to convert the Covid-19 health card, which came into force on August 9th, into a vaccination card application.

New measures have been taken in Franceas the new year approaches as part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Prime Minister Jean Castex told a news conference after the Health Defense Council at the Elysee Palace that the 5th wave of the outbreak had strongly affected France, predicting that the Omicron mutation, which is transmitted faster than delta, would prevail from the beginning of 2022. Castex said it would propose legislation on January 5th to turn the Covid-19 health card into a card containing only vaccine information to “pressure the unvaccthed,” adding that “it is unacceptable that the refusal of several million French people to be vaccinated endangers the lives of an entire country and undermines the daily life of the vast majority of French who have shown responsibility since the beginning of this crisis.” Castex stated that concerts and fireworks are banned on the night of December 31st, adding, “Let’s avoid big parties, big meetings.”

REMINDER DOSE WILL BE MANDATORY FOR THE HEALTH CARD FROM JANUARY 15

Castex announced that the reminder vaccine dose will be administered 4 months after the second dose from January 3rd, and from January 15, the reminder dose will be made mandatory for the validity of the health card for all French people between the ages of 18 and 65.

The health card currently in force in France contains information about a person’s vaccination, a negative test result from the last 24 hours, or information that they have passed the disease in the last 6 months. The health card, which came into force in France on August 9th, was made mandatory for visitors to restaurants, bars, cafes, weddings, seminars, trade fairs, as well as long-distance public transport, hospitals and nursing homes, including trains, planes and buses, and for patients who do not enter the hospital from the emergency room. If the health card is converted to a vaccination card, the vaccine will become mandatory in order to access those places.
