How many satellites does which country have?

How many satellites does which country have? What are Turkey’s satellites? Here is the number of satellites of the countries and the functions and importance of these tools…

What are the number of satellites in the countries and what are their functions? Artificial satellites areman-made objects that are deliberately placed into orbit. Over the years, the number of satellites launched into space has increased due to scientific research, weather forecasts, military support, positioning, navigation, earth imaging, climate and environment monitoring, communication.

According to the United Nations Officeof Space Affairs’s Space Launched Objects Index, the number of satellites orbiting Earth is 7,389. About 4,000 of them are active. This represents an increase of 27.97 percent compared to 2020. In addition, this data was released at the end of April 2021. However, since this number is increasing day by day, it is very difficult to give an exact number. So, how many satellites does which country have and what does it do?.Koray Ayhan

What are satellites? What’s the use?

The first satellite was launched by the Soviet Union in 1957(Sputnik-1). Let’s also explain that a total of 11,139 satellites have been launched so far. So, what do you think happened to the other satellites? It burned up in the atmosphere or returned to Earth as a wreck immediately after launch.

How many satellites does which country have?

Last year, 1,283 new satellites were launched in 2020. Moreover, this was the highest number of satellite launches in a year compared to previous years. However, almost 850 satellites were launched by the end of April 2021. Since then, of course, new ones have been added.

Today, the need for satellite data by many industries has led to an increase in the number of these vehicles. However, the main working purpose of active satellites is to collect different datasets . Some serve only one specific operation, while others serve multiple operations.

According to data recorded by UCSat the end of December 31, 2020, the number and purposes of these vehicles are:

Number of satellites Purpose
1832 Communication
906 Earth observation
350 Technology development
150 Navigation and positioning
104 Space science and observation
20 World science
10 Other purposes

The satellite industry is dominated by usa, China, Russia, UK, Japan, India, European Space Agency, Canada, Germany and Luxembourg. Meanwhile, the main reason for the increase in numbers over the last decade is due to the development of the smaller CubeSat(cube satellites). Thanks to CubeSats, many small satellites are launched at the same time. Previous rockets only launched one or two satellites.

The increase in numbers is also particularly impacted by the race in satellite broadband services, including SpaceX’s Starlink. These tools work in many sectors such as geological information, agriculture, education, food security, climate change, rural development, health, public administration, energy, environment, disaster management, urban development.

Traffic in space: The risks of space junk

Satellite numbers can seem fascinating. On the contrary, it raises serious concerns about space traffic management and space debris. Successive space explorations in recent years have revealed the risks of space junk.

What are the purposes of the satellites?

The vast majority of this space junk is flying at high speeds. This could lead to the collision of spacecraft and ultimately space debris. This year, for example, SpaceX (Starlink) and ESA (European Space Agency) satellites came back from the brink of collision. In addition, this traffic can disrupt the channels of neighboring active satellites and prevent the transmission of critical information.

It can pose a threat to the safety of people on Earth and in space, as well as space exploration and operations. ESAwill launch ClearSpace-1, one of the world’s first space debris removal missions, in 2025.

Number of satellites in countries: How many satellites does Turkey have?

According to Statista.com,of the 3,372 active artificial satellites orbiting Earth on January 1, 2021, 1,897 belong to the United States. In other words, the dominance of the United States in this area is obvious. In second place is China. China has 412 satellites.

How many satellites are in orbit?

The other country with the most satellites, after the U.S. and China, is Russia. Russia’s 176 satellites are operating in orbit. Other countries have 887 satellites. So, how many satellites does Turkey have? With türksat 5Ain orbit this year, the number of active satellites has increased to 7.

Turkey currently has satellites named TÜRKSAT 3A, TÜRKSAT 4A, TÜRKSAT 4B, TÜRKSAT 5A, GÖKTÜRK-1, GÖKTÜRK-2 and RASAT in orbit. Since 1994, our country has also had satellites orbiting the Earth.

Between 2008 and 2019, the global satellite industry nearly doubled to $US271 billion. Revenue comes from the construction, launch and operation of satellites. Private companies have had the capacity to develop and operate satellites since the 1960s, but did not succeed in launching satellites until the 1980s.

The prevalence of private companies in the sector is expected to increase in the coming decades. For example, Elon Musk‘s SpaceX space transport company plans to quadruple the number of launches between 2020 and 2040.
