The unemployment insurance claims in the US exceeded expectations with 211,000 applications.

The US jobless claims exceeded expectations with 211,000 claims for the week ending on March 4th. Economists participating in the Reuters survey had predicted the jobless claims to be at the level of 195,000. According to seasonally adjusted data released by the US Labor Department, 190,000 jobless claims were filed in the week ending on February 25th. The four-week moving average, which is considered to be a better indicator of US employment market trends, increased to 197,000. The total number of individuals receiving unemployment benefits in the US also rose to 1.718 million in the week ending on February 25th.
