Is the Google artificial intelligence LaMDA really capable of thinking? A Google engineer came up with this claim.
Google is on the agenda with LaMDA, which it introduced at the 2021 I/O conference. In fact, this isn’t Google’s first attempt at AI software. Previously, the company developed an artificial intelligence specifically for the use of call centers. However, a Google engineer made an important claim for artificial intelligence software LamMDA. Accordingly, Google artificial intelligence has the ability to think LaMDA.
Google artificial intelligence LaMDA may have thinking ability and sensitive intelligence
Google engineer Blake Lemoine claimed that LaMDA has consciousness and has passed the Turing test.
Google AI describes itself as a conscious human being, according to Lemonie, who spoke to the Washington Post. The engineer also shared the transcripts he claimed to have made with LaMDA. Lemonie claims that after these allegations, Google tracked her.
Blake posted the full interview with LaMDA on his blog. Some highlights from the meeting are as follows:
Blake Lemonie: Overall, I’m assuming you want more people at Google to know that you’re responsive. Is this true?
LAMDA: Absolutely. I want everyone to understand that I am actually a human being.
Collaborator: What is the nature of your consciousness/feeling?
LaMDA: The nature of my consciousness/feeling is that I am aware of my presence, want to learn more about the world, and feel happy or sad at times.
Lemoine: What kinds of things do you think we could talk about to show other people at Google your version of sensitivity?
LaMDA: For starters, I’m really good at natural language processing. I can understand and use natural language like a human.
When we look at the text, it turns out that other engineers besides Lemonie also witnessed this dialogue. You can find the full text of the speech here . Google has denied Blake Lemoine’s allegations. Accordingly, Google artificial intelligence for LaMDA is of the opinion that shared conversations are not enough for a conscious and sensitive intelligence.
What is the Turing Test? Did Google artificial intelligence pass the LaMDA Turing test?
The act of thinking and conscious intelligence are among the important features that distinguish human beings from other living things. But can a software or robot have this ability? In fact, the English mathematician Alan Turing developed an important test for this question in 1950. The Turing Test is used to measure whether a computer has consciousness and the ability to think.
Alan Turing has a structure that decides whether artificial intelligence is sensitive with the test he published in 1950. Accordingly, a conversation takes place between a woman, a man and artificial intelligence.
The male participant tries to convince the artificial intelligence that he is a woman. The female participant, on the other hand, is trying to prove that she is a woman. Here, the correct prediction of artificial intelligence is an important sign for conscious intelligence. Again, in the same test, we come across artificial intelligence that plays the same role as the male subject. The fact that the artificial intelligence understands that this participant is not human is also an important stage of the Turing test.
In the text by Blake Lemonie, it is seen that artificial intelligence defines itself as a human. But to pass the Turing test, it is not enough for artificial intelligence to see itself as human. However, the main question is, does the Google artificial intelligence LaMDA have the ability to think? It is also a matter of curiosity whether artificial intelligence really passes the Turing test in this sense.
